Upcoming Training Opportunity

What: Responding to Liquid and Gas Pipeline Emergencies… are some of the most demanding events responders have to face. First Responder’s have to be “street smart” to respond to a transmission or distribution emergency. This program delivers up to date information on pipeline emergencies.

Where: Honolulu Fire Department Regional Fire Training Center…890 Valkenburgh Street, Honolulu, HI 96818.

When: July 30 & 31, 20188:00 – 16:00 hrs.…the same training will be conducted on each day, you only need to attend one day’s training.

Who: Instructor:  Michael Callan through his hazardous materials background has worked with pipeline utility experts to develop training programs for first responders such as Responding to Pipeline Emergencies , Propane Emergencies and Responding to Natural Gas Emergencies. The training will discuss response actions to safely deal with a hazardous liquid or gas transmission pipelines or utility gas distribution emergency. It offers a practical approach to handling flammable hazardous liquids and gases on Oahu. http://mikecallan.com/

Mike Callan’s blended learning uses a range of delivery formats to build knowledge, develop skills and change behaviors.  By delivering emergency response content more frequently through a variety of channels, blended learning addresses different learning styles and enhances the learning experience of emergency responders.

Upcoming Training Opportunity

NDPTC will be hosting a demo of a new 4-hour version of the PER-304, Social Media for Natural Disaster Response and Recovery, as pre-conference training for the PRiMO conference on August 6.  Free to the public (parking is $12/day at the Hawaii Convention Center).  Those interested can register at https://ndptc.hawaii.edu/training/delivery/2183/ with the registration code 62397 but need to log in or create an NDPTC account.

The IAEM honors the completion of this training as emergency or general management training for credit hours towards AEM/CEM certifications.

Our May General Membership Meeting included a tour of NOAA’s Daniel K. Inouye Regional Center, a presentation by Josh Stanbro, from the City and County of Honolulu’s Office of Climate Change, Sustainability, and Resilience, along with professional networking and sharing of ideas and information.  Thank you to the presenters and members who attended and contributed the meeting.

Our May meeting will be held at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Inouye Regional Center (IRC) on Ford Island. You must register in advance for this event to gain access to Ford Island and the NOAA IRC. Please identify yourself as a valid Ford Island entry card holder or visitor on your registration.

EM Certification Webinar Series by IAEM

The Certification Webinar Series is a free program to assist candidates in obtaining their certification with IAEM.

The format for these webinars will be a 30 minute presentation followed by a 30 minute question and answer segment with Certification Commissioners.
